Functioning of the elements over the function of the body

Function of the element Fire:

                Fire supplies heat to keep the system working with the help of triple warmer mechanism.  So it takes the digestion process, in which part of the food energy is converted to heat energy.  Pumping action (Pericardial activity) of the heart does the two varieties of circulation in the body. They are pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation.

                In pulmonary circulation gases are exchanged between lungs and heart and during systemic circulation gases are exchanged between heart and entire parts of the body.

Function of the element Earth:

                It is the element which gives life force activity for the seeds sown in the earth which are conception of supply of energy. It is the element where Qui and life force are split into and considered for life activity in the body from food.

Function of the element Air:

                Movement, supply of gases from one region to other is possible due to these elements.  Baby during the birth, breaths and instigates to cry. Qui is duly the movement.

Function of the element Water:

                Water gives prosperity to the life activity.  Water exists superior in youth stage of an individual.  But strength is considered to be lessening during its old age.  Water plays an important role in deciding the death of an individual.

Function of the element Wood:

                 Wood takes care of exchange of gases in the lung activity.  Wood tries to expel carbon dioxide out of the body, and keeps the Oxygen level in the body.

Five-Elements Theory:

According to ancient Chinese five-elements theory, the five elements, wood, Fire, earth, metal and water are indispensable to the daily life of mankind. And in five-elements theory of traditional Chinese medicine, five viscera, liver, heart, spleen, lung and kidney, are mapped to the five elements respectively.

  • Liver vows Qui through over the body free of all care, as a tree getting taller;
  • Heart warms the body as fire;
  • Spleen produces nutrients, as soil that produce all things;
  • Lung takes down Qui and Bodily Fluid, as astringent action of the metal;
  • Kidney pools Mind and adjusts the moisture of the body, as water that vows to the low place from on high

In five-elements theory, there are generation and restriction relationships between five viscera. Generation is that of mother-to-child relationship to give birth to the other party and is circulating in the order of wood ! fire ! earth ! metal ! water. Restriction is to suppress the other party in the order of wood ! earth ! water ! fire ! metal. In traditional Chinese medicine, health is maintained if generation and restriction relationships are balanced, and hence cause of the disease and methods of treatment can be investigated from the interrelationship of five viscera.

Generation and Restriction
 shows the generation and restriction relationships. In addition, five viscera and six bowels have relations that interact with each other. That is, liver and gallbladder, heart and small intestine, spleen and stomach, lung and large intestine, and kidney and urinary bladder interact with each other, respectively. Triple energizer consists of upper energizer, middle energizer and lower energizer, which are the paths for Qui and Bodily Fluid to pass.
